Prior to filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, the debtor is required to complete a court-approved credit counseling class. In order to complete the class, the debtor must list all assets, debts, income, and expenses. The class can be completed online, usually in about an hour and a half.
Once the class is completed, the course provider will provide a certificate of completion. This certificate is filed with the court at the time the case is filed. The certificate of completion can be used to satisfy the course requirement for up to 6-months from the date of completion.
