Order of Discharge
Upon completion of the Chapter 7 bankruptcy case requirements, the bankruptcy court will approve an "Order of Discharge." This official court order is then mailed to each of the creditors that were included in the bankruptcy. The entry of this order eliminates the debtor's obligation to pay the discharged debt. It also imposes on the creditors a permanent injunction prohibiting any collection on the debt. This injunction carries substantial weight. If a creditor attempts to collect on a discharged debt, the bankruptcy court can impose monetary sanctions for violating the courts order.
