Reasonable and Necessary Living Expenses

Living Expenses

The means test calculation (second part of the means test) determines whether your current monthly income is sufficient to enable you to pay all of your reasonable and necessary living expenses, with little or nothing left to pay your debts.

The expenses you can claim include the following: taxes, certain payroll deductions, housing (mortgage or rent payment), utilities, food, housekeeping supplies, apparel and services, personal care products and services, health care, transportation costs, car payments, support payments, childcare, and certain miscellaneous expenses.  Many of the expense amounts you can claim are limited by certain applicable expenses guidelines that are published on the U.S. Trustee's Office website.
